About Umunna Cultural Association of Indianapolis
Our Mission
The Umunna Cultural Association of Indianapolis aims to promote cultural awareness and appreciation of Nigerian Igbo culture. We achieve this through.:
- Membership Connections: Engaging monthly and seasonal activities that allow our members to connect, deepen relationships and collaborate as a family. We create a home away from home and a sense of unity, support and belonging among Igbo families living in Central Indiana.
- Participation in Cultural Events: Umunna members participate in locally hosted cultural activities. We volunteer and perform to share Igbo art, music and culture to educate our local community about Nigerian Igbo culture.
- Fund Raising and Support for Charities: Umunna members actively support and engage with local charities. Our primary charitable activities promote the education and Increased awareness of both ALS and Sickle Cell Anemia diseases. Umunna also donate funds support to support and advance Scientific Research of both ALS and Sickle Cell Anemia Diseases:
- Annual Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Run: Starting 2019, Umunna Members are invited and join Team "Oluchi" to participate in the run / walk. Additionally, Umunna donates funds to the Sickle Cell Disease Association. This annual event is organized by The Martin Center Sickle Cell Initiative.
- Annual ALS Walk: Umunna actively participate-in and supports fundraising for the ALS Organization. This annual event is organized by the ALS Organization of Indianapolis.
- Umunna School Bag Charity Program: On 29th of April 2022, Umunna approved a new Charity Program to provide bag-packs to elementary school kids in our home country Nigeria.
